چکیده

We proposed a new search heuristic using the scuba diving metaphor. This approach is based on the concept of evolvability and tends to exploit neutrality which exists in many real-world problems. Despite the fact that natural evolution does not directly select for evolvability, the basic idea behind the scuba search heuristic is to explicitly push evolvability to increase. A comparative study of the scuba algorithm and standard local search heuristics has shown the advantage and the limitation of the scuba search. In order to tune neutrality, we use the N Kq fitness landscapes and a family of travelling salesman problems (TSP) where cities are randomly placed on a lattice and where travel distance between cities is computed with the Manhattan metric. In this last problem the amount of neutrality varies with the city concentration on the grid ; assuming the concentration below one, this TSP reasonably remains a NP-hard problem.

How Effective Is the Use of Metaphor Therapy on Reducing Psychological Symptoms and Pain Discomfort in Patients with Non-Cardiac Chest Pain: A Randomized, Controlled Trial

Introduction: Psychological symptoms of non-cardiac chest pain (NCCP) including perceptual, emotional, and behavioral problems can effect patient perception of chest pain. This study was conducted to determine the effect of metaphor therapy on mitigating depression, anxiety, stress, and pain discomfort in patients with NCCP. Materials and Methods: This randomized, controlled, trial was conducte...

Effect of scuba-diving on optic nerve and sheath diameters

Background :There is not any data available about the effect of high bar pressure condition on intracranial pressure. In this study, the effect of diving on the optic nerve and sheath diameters as non-invasive markers of intracranial pressure has been investigated.   Methods : Twenty professional male divers from twenty one volunteers were chosen for this cross-sectional study. Only one perso...

Effect of immersion, submersion, and scuba diving on heart rate variability.

BACKGROUND Heart rate variability (HRV) describes the cyclic variations in heart rate and offers a non-invasive tool for investigating the modulatory effects of neural mechanisms elicited by the autonomic nervous system on intrinsic heart rate. OBJECTIVE To introduce the HRV concept to healthy volunteers under control conditions and during scuba diving. In contrast with more established manoe...

Temporomandibular dysfunction syndrome associated with scuba diving mouthpieces.

As previous reports have highlighted that temporomandibular joint dysfunction syndrome can occur during scuba diving due to the use of a diving mouthpiece, 74 divers of varied experience (62 male, 12 female) were asked to evaluate the efficiency of the mouthpiece for the ease of grip, insertion into the mouth, clearing of water, air sharing, comfort and overall efficiency. They also recorded th...

Metaphor: a Creative aid in Architectural Design Process

In the developing world, skills in innovation and creative design have emerged as key attributes for graduating designers. Creativity is essential if we want to generate new solutions to the considerable and complex problems in architecture. Metaphor is frequently expressed as a key tool for enhancing creative design, yet little empirical research has been performed on how novice designers can ...
